Dear Students, Staff, Parents/Guardians and members of our school community,
Are you ready?
Planning one’s career is so different these days – especially from that of earlier generations, where school leavers selected one career upon graduating from school, met the required prerequisites and started their employment. Many family friends from earlier generations remained in the one career for life and many in the same organisation for 40 years.
Times have certainly changed. We don’t hear of many employees spending this length of time in the one place. There is greater flexibility and many of our young people will pursue three to four careers in their lifetime – often needing different qualifications. There is greater uncertainty due to the rapid rate of technological developments as to what volume of knowledge and set of skills are needed to be ready for the next chapter of one’s career journey. Some business enterprises will be taken over by competitive industries – some of which have not even been developed yet.
Schools and families need to help our young people prepare for this unchartered career journey – developing the capabilities and confidence of our youth, to move into their next career phase with zeal and enthusiasm.
The Australian Curriculum and the South Australian Certificate of Education require students to study career planning courses to prepare well for their future – exploring various career pathways that interest them across a range of industries.
Ms Sally Xu shares with you in our new Careers Hub section of this newsletter, key information to assist you and your family navigate one aspect of your child’s post-secondary schooling career journey. Thank you Sally.
Yours sincerely,
Ms Gina Kadis

South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) = University Entrance
SATAC is the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre which was established by the universities of South Australia to process tertiary applications and send offers to applicants. Furthermore, SATAC also processes applications for scholarships at the University of South Australia and calculates the ATAR for SACE students. The participating institutions in SATAC are:
Charles Darwin University
International College of Hotel Management (ICHM)
Flinders University
SAIBT
Tabor
TAFE SA
The University of Adelaide
Torrens University Australia
University of South Australia
For Year 12 students, it is important to seek advice from your teachers, and have conversations with your family and friends to support you in researching and exploring your options for tertiary education.
Moreover, the SATAC Guide is also a valuable tool for you to explore the wide range of courses on offer. You can also use it to find the courses that align with your strengths and interests.
The 2023 SATAC guide will be delivered to Adelaide International School early Term 3 for distribution to students and subsequently also posted online.
As students now enter the second half of Year 12, the upcoming holidays period is a good time to start considering what’s available for you, and prepare to apply for university or TAFE SA courses if tertiary study is your goal. Application for 2023 opens on the 1st of August. Students in Year 12 should lodge their online application by September (date advised in 2023 SATAC guide) with an application fee. Late applications carry a very expensive late fee. Please be aware of this key information and plan accordingly. Students are encouraged to apply for 6 options in order of preference – from first university course preferred. There is an option to go in and change the order of the preferences once SACE results are released to students in December.
Our teachers and myself are very happy to support you with your tertiary application and course explanation. Therefore, please do not hesitate to seek advice from them if you are uncertain. If you would like to have a conversation with Miss Xu to discuss your application, please email Miss Xu at This email address is being protected from spambots. If you wish to study interstate or overseas – please speak to Ms Kitty Shao (Education Support Officer) who will introduce you to a key staff member from our ISES team specialising in this area.
